Health Services Scholarship Program

The GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences offers a variety of competitive scholarship programs to assist in funding exceptional projects related to healthcare and medicine.  The Health Services Scholarship Program is designed to provide funding for summer experiential opportunities in the following areas: community health, emergency management, environmental health, global health, health policy, integrative medicine, medical education, medical humanities, technology in medicine, preventive medicine, research, and clinical practice innovation and entrepreneurship.  Funding for the Health Services Scholarships come from a variety of sources; a limited number of scholarships in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded. The 2025 application is now available. Applications will be due March 7th, 2025.

Eligible Students

  • First year GW medical students
  • Good academic standing (the award is contingent upon the student’s good academic standing throughout the duration of the accepted program).

Lazarus Family Scholarship Program

The Lazarus Family Scholarship Program was established by Gerald Lazarus, MD, class of ’63 and Audrey Jakubowski Lazarus, PhD, to support medical students while they pursue extraordinary educational opportunities in healthcare.  This program is designed to provide pivotal experiences for future leaders in healthcare.

W.T. Gill Summer Fellowship Program

Each year, first year medical students are invited to apply for the W.T. Gill Summer Fellowship stipends to support select summer research internship opportunities at The George Washington University, Children's National Health System, and the Washington DC Veteran's Affairs Medical Center.

The Office of Research Administration oversees the funding and the selection process for the W.T. Gill Fellowship Program, and a limited number of $4,000 scholarships will be awarded.  There is further information, application instructions and a description of selection criteria at the medical student opportunities website within the School of Medicine research website:

Jean L. Fourcroy M.D. Research Award Scholarship

The Jean L. Fourcroy M.D. Research Award was established to support research activities of medical students and residents with an interest in Urology. A limited number of awards no greater than $2,500 will be awarded. Requirements for the award are included in the application. Application deadline: TBA.

Beverly and Jerome Fine Summer Research Fellowship

Each year, first year medical students are invited to apply for the Beverly and Jerome Fine Summer Research Fellowship program. Selected students will receive a stipend of $3600 to support research opportunities at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. The project must be a minimum of 8 weeks in length and the proposed project objectives or intended outcome must be achievable within that time frame. Projects must be discovery/inquiry-based research projects, such as retrospective clinical research, basic science mechanistic studies, randomized clinical trials or education research. Projects may be conducted either under the mentorship of faculty of Sinai Hospital or at Sinai Hospital (or affiliated Baltimore community sites) with a mentor from the GW faculty. Application deadline: February 21, 2025.
